WANTED – BC ADOPTION COORDINATOR VOLUNTEER

Northwest Canadian Greyhound League (NCGL) is a registered charity dedicated to the placement or re-homing of retired racing Greyhounds as well as Greyhounds and Greyhound mixes that are surrendered to NCGL by those that can no longer care for their pet. NCGL arranges veterinary care for each of these dogs and finds them adoptive homes. We also arrange for foster care for each Greyhound entering our program prior to their adoption.
The Intake and Adoption Coordinator is responsible for the intake and adoption processes, including but not limited to evaluating and assessing potential applications, interviewing potential adopters, and using judgment based on the assessment for the best, most appropriate home for retired/rehome greyhound racers. The Adoption Coordinator will also monitor and screen online and telephone adoption/release requests, be responsible for data entry duties related to intakes and adoptions, and conduct follow-up contact with adopters.
The coordinator will work closely/collaboratively with the Foster Coordinator for NCGL BC and members of the NCGL Board.
Position Objectives: To find permanent placements for retired/rehomed racing greyhounds and other sighthounds in BC. To expand and maintain BC adoption outreach and database.

Reports to: NCGL Board
Responsibilities and Duties:
-Screen adoption applicants
-Interview potential adopters
-Work closely and in partnership with the BC Foster Coordinator
-Perform home visits and face to face interviews of potential adopters
-Secure placements for adoptable greyhounds
-Outreach and engagement with other non profit sighthound organizations domestic and international
-Communicate with all potential and approved adopters
-Maintain adopter database
-Coordinate adoptions in British Columbia primarily Western Canada including Vancouver Island
-Coordinate transport of animals as needed
-Keep adoption website up to date with new adoptions together with BC Foster Coordinator
-Collaborate with NCGL board members and foster coordinator to advertise adoption events accordingly
-Assist with placement of dogs when needed
Qualifications Needed:
-Strong communication skills
-Volunteer or employment work in adoption management preferred
-Strong people skills
-Comfortable communicating on the phone
-Enjoys interacting with the public
-Comfortable managing sensitive situations, including declining prospective adopters
-Strong writing and communication skills.
-Experience and/or familiarity with basic computer programs
-Comfortable and confident working collaboratively in a group setting and individually
-Comfortable working remotely or in an office setting
Flexible schedule
-Skilled at managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
-Comfortable handling or learning to handle greyhounds who have been recently rehomed/retired
This is a volunteer position that works closely and in partnership with the BC Foster Coordinator for NCGL and NCGL Alberta. There is an expectation that the BC Adoption Coordinator could also end up being a member of the NCGL Board. Preference will be given to applicants living in but not limited to the Greater Vancouver area.
