Missy is the most adorable life support for ears we’ve ever met! We believe Missy is a whippet cross, we’re not 100% sure on that or what she’s crossed with – but she’s adorable, kind, funny and oh so loving and that’s good enough for us! We also aren’t sure how old Missy is, but based on the condition of her teeth and her fun and playful antics, the vet believes she’s about one year old.
Missy has a lot of energy! She loves to play all day with her favorite hobby being crazy fetch and stuffy surgery. She would do great with a doggy friend that could keep up with her energy but could be a bit much for an older dog. Although her first true love is people! Because Missy loves to chew chew chew chew, keeping important things like remotes, shoes and your favorite socks out of her reach is super important! Providing her with her own toys that she is allowed to chew on is a must! She absolutely loves her walks but needs to work on her leash manners as she can be a bit pully and gets super excited.
She’s done fabulous with her potty training but hasn’t been left alone for a full 8 hour day yet. She’s not a fan of her crate and has broken out of it once. She does well outside of her crate but as mentioned above, has not been left outside of it for a longer period of time.
Missy is spayed and fully vetted but did have a small breakout of Papilloma warts around her mouth which is almost all cleared up! Papilloma is not contagious to humans but can be spread to other pets via licking and sharing bowls/water. Papilloma is common in dogs and more often appears in pups with immature immune systems (younger dogs) and those who are immunocompromised. As it is a virus, once the dog has the Papillomaviruse they should be immune to it in the future. This should clear up naturally within a few weeks but if it requires a follow up vet visit, NCGL will be covering expenses related to her breakout at a vet of our choosing. Missy also has a chicken allergy and cannot have any food or treats with chicken or chicken byproducts or she will become extremely itchy and uncomfortable. Most dog treats and food have some type of chicken or chicken by-product in it so this is something her family will have to pay attention too. There are plenty of poultry free and limited ingredient kibbles out there now, so this shouldn’t be a problem.
Missy LOVES her people and wants to be with them all the time! If you think you’re that person, please reach out to us today!
Missy is being fostered in Airdrie, Alberta. If you’re interested in Missy please reach out to us at adopt@ncgl.ca

NCGL volunteers were contacted by some wonderful animal lovers and volunteers in Saskatchewan this past week about a little Whippet mix who had been tied to her fence most of her life and was being surrendered when her owners no longer wanted her. There was no room for her or her lab mix friend in the area and they were in danger of being euthanized if there was no commitment from a group to take them.
Of course we agreed to take her and started working hard with multiple volunteers in Alberta and Saskatchewan to get her to Calgary and find a soft landing for her buddy Ted! A wonderful group ended up taking in Ted and multiple volunteers drove hours to get these two pups to safety. We want to thank the wonderful volunteers in Saskatchewan who worked so hard to save the lives of these two pups and reached out to us! We also want to thank Alisha for making the trip to Lloyd and back to Calgary with Missy and Phil for offering to foster!
It takes a village to help these wonderful dogs and we are so grateful for the people that we have helping us
